I got one male and four female convicts in mid-april. The male paired off quickly with one of the ladies and they took up shop in a flower pot, having a new batch of fry about every three weeks.
I noticed a new batch of fry last weekend and when I went closer to watch, I realized that one of the other females was tending the fry this time - right outside the flowerpot. The old Mrs. is still hanging out in the flowerpot and the male seems to be "attending" to both. He's watching the new fry and keeping the old Mrs. away from them, but still goes in to visit her whereas he chases the remaining two females away.
I thought convicts paired off for life? Maybe I was mistaken. I guess I picked up a player...
