Hi all. I am going to replace my 10 gal with a 20 gal long. So this is what I think I should do. Drain the 10 gal water in bucket and put fish in it. Make sure new tank has no leaks. Then I will put gravel from old tank into the new tank. And fill half way with new treated water. Put my fake plants and decor in tank. Then heater and my bubble thing going. Put the rest of old water in and fish. Then slap on new filter with old filter media from old filter. My heater is also going to be upgraded along with my air pump.
Is this what I want to do or am I forgetting something? Thank you for your help.

It could take a while, so I'd put the heater in the bucket away from the sides to keep up temperature.

Sounds like a fairly sound plan to me, although I'd start running the filter before putting the fish in, after they've been off for a little bit they have a habit of kicking out a fair lot of muck.

Also, remember to treat any tap water you put in. Otherwise, sounds like you're set, good luck with the upgrade!

yea treat all water, and preferably also use prepared, aged water that you've been keeping around for this occasion (becuase of course your old water from the 10 gal wont completely fill the 20 gal)

also very important is to keep the old filter media wet always. and always in old tank water or treated water...

Thank you all so much. I wrote this down so I won't forget. Before I bought the 10 gal I wanted a 20 gal long but couldn't find one. So I am excited. I will post pics of my tank soon ( with my daughters help). Thanks again for your help.
