Update on my German Blue Rams

It has been 8 days since I brought them home. They apparently are doing much better and love it here so much that they have laid eggs in one of the corners of the tank. I was shocked to see them there this afternoon because they weren't there when I left this morning. My biggest question is now, What do I do? I haven't added any new fish to the tank, but my Mystery snail is camping out in that corner along with the eggs and one of the fish so do I need to remove it? One of the Rams is guarding the eggs I assume, it was hiding with them, but facing them. So would it take care of the snail if it gets out of line? I am not too worried about the filter intake right now, but when/if they hatch do I need to put something around it so they wont be sucked up? They are in the corner with the heater right now (opposite of the filter). The other ram is on the opposite side of the tank, I am guessing to divert attention from the "nest".

I am sorry about the quality and size of the pics.

One of the fish guarding the eggs. (I use the Deep River Pebble and that is a 3" terra cotta pot. To give you an idea of the size of the fish and eggs.)

This is how close the snail is to the eggs. You can see the fish's mouth above the rock beside the snail. (The snail doesn't have that blemish, its a reflection of the camera and I didnt' notice it until I took the pics, but thats part of the sticker on the pot that I guess I didn't get all of it off.)

Congrats on the eggs!

I would take the snail out. I don't think the ram can chase it off like it would other fish. You can put some stocking or sponge over the intake to stop fry getting sucked up.

It might help to keep a lamp or room light on somewhere in the room at night, so there is a little light for the fish to see. Sometimes the change from darkness to light can startle the parents into eating the eggs or fry, or startle the fry into the filter intake.

Ok, snail is out. Yeah, I thought that I should take it out, but wasn't sure.

I hadn't thought about stockings, haha I will do that.

Yeah I usually open the blinds in the morning for about 30 mins before I turn the aquarium light on. But I'll put a lil nightlight on for them out there (have an extra one laying around from buying one for my son).

Oh, what do I need to feed them? I have read so many different things, so I was wondering what worked best.

Where would I go to get the live brine shrimp or eggs to hatch them?

Once I removed the snail I noticed that it was the male guarding the eggs and the female was on the opposite side of the tank. He looks alot larger than her now. LOL I guess she was full of eggs when I looked at her and didnt' know it.

Thanks for the sites. I had seen the first one before, but not the second one. They both help out alot!

Here she is with her pink/red belly.

Here he is guarding the eggs.

I have wigglers!

The eggs have hatched. They have been moving them from the corner into the pot. I think the male is watching them inside the pot while the female brings them or vice versa. Or at least I'm assuming they are both working because the both were there moving around (not fighting).

Well, now the pics show up. Oh well.

When I looked in the pot this morning there are only like 15 left in there with 4 eggs. What happened to the other ones? Did they get eaten? I'm so frustrated. lol.
