I bought an upside down catfish yesterday. I've never owned catfish and I apologize for my tank information being incorrect. It's been a long time since I've posted on this site. Anyway, when I bought it, it had a white spot in the middle of its belly that is raised up. As I've never owned catfish, I wasn't sure it was normal until I was reading reports of peoples' catfish dying after they developed white spots. I've read that this might be dropsy or a bacterial infection. The fish came this way from the store. It was a store I normally trust to give me healthy fish.

What disease is this and how is it cured?
Do you think it's better to just take the fish back to the store and get a replacement?

I would take pictures of the spot but the little fellow likes to hide and I don't want to force him out of his hiding place.

May be Ich or Fin rot?

Can you post a picture? :p

I know my catfish has has some scratches and a few spots from time to time.. but that's just from him being a doof and rubbing up on my common pleco (which has spines) or rocks in my tank.

No, I`m glad you have such optimism, however, you need to immediately remove your catfish from your display tank and into a hospital tank. His symptoms are tell-tale signs of ich, and it sounds tobe getting progressively worse. I would start treatment asap. Get him out of contact from your other fish, lest ye feel the wrath of an ich epidemic.

?

hey I saw that your cat fish were dealing with some of the similar problems that one of my cat fish are dealing with and i had a few questions. 1. Was your cat fish not as active once it started getting the spots. 2. what did you end up doing with your fish after you started seeing these spot. and lastly what happened to your fish and did it effect the rest of the fish in your tank?
