Okay so yesterday afternoon our downstairs ceiling starts dripping at a pretty steady rate. All the plumbing in the house is checked out, landlord called. The next morning, just before the landlord is to come over and chop up a ceiling, I notice the water level in the tank is dropped nearly 2 inches. ARRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH. My fluval 304 has this little tab where the cord goes into and the male portion of this thing broke during my last cleaning. Hence the drip. So, besides commiseration, I am wondering do I do the filter switch? This means one of two things. 1. I go buy a new fluval 304 and then return a surprisingly broken filter - not that comfy with this but to replace it is like over 150$. 2. I toss the sucker out and buy a different type of filter. IF I do this, what do y'all recommend? Will buy something tomorrow so I need replies tonight please and thanks in advance.

Are you sure you just cant buy the new part and not have to replace the whole unit? Im unfamiliar with any canister filters but it only seems necassary to replace the part not the whole unit. If so get a power filter for a temporary solution and fix it.

The part is the whole head and suction system. Would have to special order from the dealer which can take some time. And I am sure - from past experiences of buying parts for this filter - that the parts are expensive to get and hard to find/ hard to order. Good idea though. Any more??????? Have a power head and airstone in the tank already.

OK so after all of that (IM convo) I think my suggestion is to get a 20 dollar HOB filter and use that on the 30 until you can get money/time together for a new canister filter (which costs way less online) I just figured I would post this and bump the thread to see if anyone has any other good suggestions or suggestions of replacement filters because I don't know much of anything about canister filters.

Besides...it will be good to have an extra filter hanging around after you get a canister in case of another filter meltdown right?
