Using an under gravel filter and an HOB?

I have a 20 gallon hex and I was wondering since it was so high, if it would be smart to use both of these to make sure all of the water gets filtered. Or would these contradict each other? My other plan is to use an HOB and an underwater filter about half way down? Would this work or is it even possible? Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated as this will determine my next move as far as the tank goes.

this has been asked many times before, and it always comes out to, get one powerful HOB (i reccomend aquaclears) or a good canister (i love fluvals) if the filter is powerful enough it doesnt really matter the depth of your tank, espcially in a tank thats only 20gal.

cheers

p.s. GO ARSENAL!

A fellow Gooner, I see. I was planning on getting a powerful one I was just wondering if the extra would help out just to make sure it all gets filtered. I was wondering because in the hex it is so tall and wanted to make sure that the bottom would get good and filtered. Thanks for all your help and could you also all recommend some more really good power filters. Thanks alot.

You know, if you think you may have some dead spots in your tank, you could install a small powerhead to up the circulation a bit in conjunction with your hotb. I personally wouldn't want to be the one breaking down a tall hex tank later on to clean all the crud out from under the ugf.
