Vacation Feeders How Reliable are they?

I'm going out of Town for 4 days. I bought one of those 14 day vacation feeders. How safe or reliable are they? I'm afraid i my come back and all my fish are dead from starvation. Any thoughts or Ideas?

To be honest with you, I wouldn't even bother...not for just 4 days. Feed em' well before you leave, and they oughta be fine. I've never used those automatic feeders, so I can't comment on them, but I'd be more worried about too much food getting dumped into the tank and polluting it!

Your fish could probably survive a good week or two without food. Now, if you have fry, then that's another story.

I completely understand how you feel worried about starving your fish...been there, done that. Yours should be just fine and dandy when you get back after 4 days. *SUNSMILE*

Yes, they'll be fine for 4 days, or even up to a week.

If you go away regularly and want to feed them, you could get an automatic feeder to use. If you can get one that you put each feeding in a chamber, you can control what they get and when better.

DONT use the food tablets they will try to sell you. Those are the worst idea possible. Your fish will survive but your tank will be completely covered in algae. Avoid the tablets at all costs

your fish will definilty be fine for four days. i only feed my fish 3x a week.

I went away for spring break and left my convicts without any food. They lived great!

i just relied on a weekend filter for an entire week, last week when i was on my cruise, i hooked it up like a month before and i would run downstairs when it was time to for the feeder to feed to see how much it gave out, andto see if it was even working... it worked out great. i keep it hooked up now 24/7 so i dont have to feed them anymore!
