Hey all, I'm more than happy to report that my 26g is now stocked and doing really good. I did end up loosing my big betta in the 5g, but as it was mentioned, we had no idea how old he really was and I had him for about 1 1/2yrs. I was totally sad but it happens. So now the 5g has 4 fancy guppies and 2 Mickey Mouse platies. The big tank has about 20 fish, 8 glow light tetras, 2 drawf gourami, 3 guppies, 4 neon tetras, 2 algae eaters and a big plesto. The plants are doing great, now that I remember to feed the algae eaters, haha. So my question is what about being gone for like 5 days? Should I get an automatic feeder or feeders I guess or if I feed both tanks before I leave will they be ok until we get home? I just want to keep them all happy!! Thanks!

I have been gone that long with no problems. In fact I am leaving tomorrow for 5 days and do not plan on doing anything special. When we have been gone for 10 days I do drop those 5 or 10 day feeder things in, but so far my experience with them is some tanks eat them and others I just remove when I get home - (I have 6 tanks). I have never lost any fish while we have been gone.

Hey Thanks Tyra! I guess I needed the warm fuzzy of someone else who might have done the same thing. I plan on feeding them when we leave. Our lights are already on timers, so I'm hoping they all are fine while we are gone! Thanks!

The only concern I'd have is the 2 unknown fish called 'algae eaters.' Do you know what fish they are? Can you post pics if you do not? If it is the Chinese Algae Eater, they can be aggressive toward other fish as they get larger, and with no food to keep them busy, they COULD pick on other fish.

Otherwise, 5 days is no problem for most fish to go without being fed. If it was fry you were raising, that would be another story :)

every once in a while you need to stir up the sand a little every once in a while to release gas pockets, this was about month 2. since then it seems like the water never gets clear so im wondering if maybe siphoning a majority of the water and replacing my filter cartridge at the same time do the trick? im still relatively new to this so im looking for all the help i can get and please refrain from negative comments any help asap would be much appreciated, thanks
