Hi,

Am planning a vacation and will be gone 10 days. Can't get anyone to care for my 36 gallon heated freshwater tank. I did purchase 2 self feeders "EHEIM FISH FEEDER BRAND" I have one on this tank and on my 10 gallon goldfish tank about $45 each. They appear to work fine. Feeds daily, I've been monitoring for about a month. I leave in May. I am still really worried about leaving my fish. Lets Hear it......of course I am worried about a power outage. In California at the beach and don't have many of those. Should my pump fail while I am gone I will die. I have to much effort and time into my tank but just want opinions.

I just got back from an eight-day vacation. All the fish were fine. I, too, worry about equipment failure, but so far it has been fine.

You could see if a friend or relative can come check that nothing has gone awry when you're away.

My biggest concern is always the heat in the house. I make sure the cooling is on a thermostat, so that should there be a heat wave, the house stays cool enough.

I'm going out of town for a few days and only planning on having my housesitter feed the fish once. I usually only feed about every other or every 3rd day as a rule.

Thank you I guess I will just go to Hawaii and not worry....my friends laugh at me because I am going to Hawaii and worried about my fish. Hey, it took forever to get those tanks going in the beginning. The goldfish I don't do much with. Heck they were in a green pond with no air or filter. They have both now (air & filter) and get little snacks... The big tank is my concern. I will do a 75% water change before I leave. My bio is great I have no problems there. My friend told me she would check twice a week so I am good.

It's a good idea not to change equipment or add fish in the week or two before you go. Because new fish or equipment is the most likely to have a problem, it's better to wait until you get back to change anything in the tank. If everything is working well, leave it that way :)
