Hello:
I have a goldfish fry, about 3 months old now. Until 3 days ago he was thriving. Suddenly I noticed he would swim a bit and then just sink to the bottom and lay on his side. I was sure he was dying, but lo and behold he didn't. He has been eating a little but very very little compared to his usual appetite. Of course I did a water change (I do water changes regularly anyway). The water is good but alkaline. On the advice of a local pet store, Iadded some aquariam salt for electrolytes. One possibility suggested to me was some sort of air bladder bloat. He swims just a tad before laying down again. Does anyone have any idea what this is and how I might treat this little guy? If so, PLEASE let me know. Thank you!

Out of the 350 fry I have had, there have been a few goldfish with defects that were related to air bladders that had to be culled. Is this one of your own fry or is it from someone. Also sometimes truama can cause an airbladder to not inflate correctly. How is the rest of the batch doing???

my goldfish fry

Unfortunately, we have nothing to cull. We had 16 fry initially, and all died but this one, which has been thriving for more than 3 months. I suspect it is an air bladder problem. Do fry ever survive this kind of problem? The local fish store recommended I try Clout, an all purpose medication. Any ideas?
