Instead of a diatom filter, I use a Magnum HOT filter with the micron filter pad in it. It does a great job of polishing water. Apparently, it can also work as a diatom filter if you put diatom powder on it.

I like it, because it can be easily moved around, and can be used as a regular filter, too.

I have one and highly recommend it. Keep in mind it is not to be used as your primary filter.....DC
