I-love-fishies if you make a comment like that why dont you offer some suggestions too?

I think a whisper or an aquatec are great filters...I have whispers on two of my three tanks and they're good little filters. They do the job, I dont think you need to worry about "improving" them. I think if I had a bigger tank I would invest in a canister filter though. But if you're on a tight budget or just have a smallish tank I think I would stick with a normal HOB filter.

I use a lot of stuff from walmart. I have never had any problems with them. They have really improved a lot in the past year. No, it may not be top of the line, but for the average hobby keeper, it is just fine. They have a new submersible heater now that I just love. I believe it is the Whisper brand.

I have used the aquatec filters for years. Just clean them out regularly, like any other filter and you shouldnt have any problems.

i hate aquatech filters, my brother bought one for his 15 galloon and it is a piece of trash, if the water in the tank goes down 1/2" then the filter basically stops flowing any discernable amount of water. i've cleaned it many many times, impeller and all, it frustrates me to no end. aquaclears are much easier and far superior and the same price.

I've actually got several Aqua-tech filters running on various tanks... I don't know whats wrong with moricollin's, I've never seen that problem, but I would bet on it needing a new impeller. In fact my 2g hex right now (with a regent aqua-tech 10-15) is running almost 2 inches low (I was about to refill it) and about the only problem is its almost sucking air at the filter intake (the filter intake was cut down to work with this tank).

The regent/aqua-tech filters are made by marineland and are good quality products, tho they do lack the 'bells and whistles' of the marineland branded versions. But they are a good basic filter.

Whisper power filters (also found at walmart) are my personal favorites - but that's just my preference. I've got some AC's and I've never been fond of them due to restart issues...
