i was recently at wal-mart getting some catfood and i noticed that they have 5 gallon tanks that have lighting and three stage filtration all in the hood like the eclipse tanks. However, these wal-mart tanks are about half the price of eclipse tanks. Are these tanks just as good as the eclipse tanks? what are the pros and cons? -thanks

I am partial to glass tanks. If it is the tank I'm thinking of, they should do nicely. I assume they have a bio-wheel. Lighting can be a prob if you are growing plants other than low-light. In which case if it is not an flourescent bulb, replace with a Wall-Mart screw in flourescent ... about $4-5 I think. Great way to intensify the light and keep the heat factor down.

Oh I got one of those for my betta and a few white clouds. The eclipse tanks and these are both made by marineland and they look remarkably similar, and I think they work just as well. The lighting is flourescent and it is pretty decent for most plants, I think. I've only kept anacharis, java fern, and aponogetons in there though.
