I got a bag of shells, thinking my Hermit would like to change soon (looked big for his current shell), I rinsed and put the shells into the tank, and he immediately went to investigate the shells. At first he went into a small conch(?) shell, but decided it was too big, then he found another shell, and went into that. He looks much happier now, but what should I do with all the other shells? Should I take them out, or just leave them in there? It's sort of making the tank bed look crowded.

I've found my shells actually begin to break down. I leave mine in cause I don't know when one will die and/or I'll get some new ones--and they may benefit from the old, smaller shells.

It's cool watching em change, isn't it? I keep land hermits too and it's even more fun to watch them change.

I havent seen my hermits switch shells either. I use to have a hermit crab and I didnt give it any extra shells and I eventually found it dead outside of its shell, and that was the end of hermit crabs
