Water Change Size ?

How big of a water change should I do on a 1g tank that as:

ammonia: .25 ppm
nitrite: .50 ppm
nitrate: 0 ppm
pH: 7.6

I dont want to destroy the beneficial bacteria but dont want to leave all the dangerous variables(ammonia, nitrites, nitrates) in there.

Honestly I would wait. the levels arent that high. I f you do want to do a water change I would only do about 40 %.

Water changes wont take beneficial bacteria out of the tank unless you also wash all of your gravel and filter media etc because most bacteria is not free floating in the water, it is attached to things in your tank. I would agree with maha though, 40% would work for today.

I always did 100% water changes on my small 1gal tank (actually it was a glass bowl/vase thing) because it didn't have a filter. The bacteria is on the glass and gravel and any ornaments you might have.

i would wait to do a 100% untill your cycle is finished. you dont want to disrupt anything. i too agree, about 40%-ish is good for now.

Okay thanks for all the replies. I have a 2g elite filter running on it so I think I will wait on it until it gets to about 2 ppm nitrites!

Water changes won't hurt the cycle at all especially in a tank that small. TBH I have never actually witnessed a 'cycle' in any of my small tanks. Whats the point in stressing out the fish with ammonia and nitrites if you don't have to?

I wouldn't let it get to 2ppm nitrites, the most you should have is 1ppm.

Not sure why you didn't do a fishless cycle.

Hopefully you've put some gravel or filter media from one of your other tanks in there.
