water changes during cycle

I didn't reall know about cycling untill I started readng on this site, so I have a question, how often should I do a water change and how much during my cycle when I have 2 3-spot gouramis in a 18 gallon tank? The tank has been running for like 3 days. I just want to keep the ammonia down and nitrite.

You'll need to do as many as necessary to keep ammonia and nitrite below 1.0 ppm.

well i actually had to let the ammonia go up a little for my cycle to complete...

As long as there is any "excess" ammonia, the bacteria will grow. Doesn't matter if it's 1 ppm or 100 ppm.

You'll want to get some liquid water tests for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Don't be afraid to do multiple water changes a day if neccessary to keep your ammonia and nitrites down.
