C-man is right on with the water changes. It is better to do more frequent, smaller water changes then larger less frequent changes.

But your tank is really overstocked. It will probably work out fine for a while, but once the rams start to mature, my guess is that you'll end up with one male at best, and maybe a female or two. There just isn't a lot of room in a 29 for all to get a good teritory.

Heven forbid if you get two pairs actualy breeding at the same time. I would say they would darn near kill everything else in the tank if this were to happen.

If you can keep a close eye on them as they mature and either pull out the extra's before they get killed, or remove the pair then you'll be better off. Or just give them a much larger tank.

labs and rams? in one tank?
the parameters and temp are diff ont hem... dont rams prefer low PH?
i know labs require a 7.6+ and a 78 degree+ temp
plus the aggression..... if the rams try anything you better kiss them goodbye

your better of getting another tank, rams would be good to go in a 29 gallon but why not keep the 29 as a community tank and start a 55g or something up for rift lakes :)

just my 2cents *BOUNCINGS

EDIT: sorry i didnt even notice the post date :|

Rams do fine in my tap PH of 7.8. But weekly water changes are required. If it goes more than 2 weeks i can almost take it to the bank someone will die.

I agree you have a time bomb waiting to blow up in that tank. You will most definitely need to do something long before mating is a concern. You will start to have problems as soon as they become older than juvies. this is normally when they start staking out territories.

Rams are pretty suspect on pH, and really need a different hardness to the yellow labs, so one or the other will be suffering. Rams are from \venezuela, and lived in small ponds and back rivers on a largely grassy, reedy, large floodplain.
The activity level of the labs and silver dollars will be a bit much for them too

Rams like discus are very adaptable to what PH they can be kept in within reason of course. Yes the PH needs of a yellow lab is far beyond what I would dare keep them in. But proper PH is really only required for spawning.

Normally water quality is the bigger issue. This fish is not one for the person not wanting to do weekly water changes.

Never ever keep african cichlids with south americans. Th rams need a soft ph while the labs need hard ph. Rams are cichlids and will fight over territory.

and chichlid man is right and the others are right, your tank is way over stocked and there will be deaths and fights. next time please do your research...
