Water Hardness

I just tested my tank with my new test kit an I'm wondering what to do about the hardness of the water. I have a Tetra fresh/marine test kit.

GH - 10 drops
KH - 9 drops

How can I correct this?

The rest of my readings are:

NO2-: Less than .3 mg/l
ph: Between 8.5 and 9.0
NH3+NH4: 0mg/l

Your hardness looks fine. Your dH is 4.5 for KH, and 5 for GH. If anything, you may want to bring your pH down...that seems pretty high to me.

I think his KH and GH are higher, but he didn't give us a reading based on whatever test kit he's using.

Were the tests the same in both tanks and for your tapwater?

He's using the same kit that I use. One drop = 0.5dH.

I dont have anything done to my salt water tank yet. I have water in it with the equipment, but nothing else.

I plan on getting some PH lowerer on Sunday. I have a Tetra fresh/marine test kit. For both hardness tests, GH and KH it says to put 1 drop of the reagent until the water turns color. It doesn't really say what is high, but I just though 9 and 10 were a little high. I used to be aquarium freshwater salt into my tank to soften it. Will that still work I had cichlids then. I am also going to be adding some plants as well.
