Water issues?

Hey folks,

I've become somewhat concerned about my water supply today. Apparently a town upstream from us (litterally upriver (quite a ways though)) issued a "Do not use" order on its municipal water system, due to blue green algae bloom.

Now, I got some angels last weekend, that came down with symptoms similar to bacterial Hemmorhagic septicemia. (Not just mine, but the ones at the LPS showed the same symptoms on sunday) My tank, and the LPS tank for the angels got pretty much 100% w/c's that day. (Both tanks got torn down and redecorated).

I spent a good part of the day trying to get through to my municipal water treatment plant (swamped with calls...). With no luck of course. So I don't know what chemicals (if any) they are using. Last time I talked to them, they said the only chemical they added was chlorine and flouride; and an ozonation process (That shouldn't matter)

Does anyone know offhand what the local water treatment plants treat blue green algae problems with? Effects on fish?

I can very easily get good water (Helps to work for a water company) BUT the water chemistry is radically different from mine. So I'm not anxious to make the switch.

My regimen for w/c's involves airstone/heater (for 24 hours give or take) And up until now, wardleys chlor-out (think thats what it was called, ran out yesterday, bought a Jungle product to replace it) at the recomended dosage.

My angels have shown a decent recovery (I've been using FURAN-2 from aquarium pharmaceuticals) EXCEPT the gills are still blood red.

Ideas?

Andy

Chlorine, Flourine, and Ozone are the three main treatments used by water treatment plants, just like they stated, and there is nothing else I'm aware of.  Increased levels of Chlorines and Flourines in your water could definately cause problems with your fish, even if you use a whole lot of dechlorinators.

Hold off on water changes and try to find an alternate source if you have to until the problem is cleared up.
And in the words of the famous Dave Mathews "don't drink the water."

DONT SAY THAT!!! My fishy spending money depends on people drinking water :)

My major problem right now, is that I have to do a 50% WC to get the furan-2 out of my 20g tonight... I've got the water prepped (using my usual method) Just worried about using it!
