Water Pump

I bought a wet/dry filter with water pump.

I am so new to know something.

The water pump has only one pipe for returning water. But, where does water go into pump? I do not see any other pipe, just one pipe for returning water.

I am wondering should I put this water pump into water(in wet/dry) let it suck water into the pump and then pump water back?
