I'm having some water quality issues mabye someone can help me with. I have a 55 Gallon tank, with undergravel, pumps, and two tubes putting air into undergravel. I have an Eheim Caniter Filter on this tank.

I do a water change and the tank gets really cloudy. I had one person tell me that I've got too much water being pushed around with the two pumps. I bought Accu-Clear by Aquarium pharmaceuticals. A day later the water was crystal clear, so I assumed I have debris floating in the water.

Everything was fine until the next water change. After the Water change the tank was cloudy again, I added the Accu-clear and this time it had no effect. I talk with some LFS people, and I have sucked (python) the undergravel and have blown a bunch of junk out from underneath.

I don't think its the water, because I own another 55 gallon, right across from the other, I do the water changes at the same time, and that water is crystal clear. Both tanks I've have for about 2 years, no cycle issues. I think the bio-load on both tanks are about the same, the other tank has two hang on back power filters, not a canister.

Any ideas ??

Could just be general debris you are disturbing- or possibly something in your water supply- can you be more specific about cloudy?
if using an undergravel as your main system it doesn't 'hold on' to fine particles like filter floss would- so disturbing the gravel will let fine particles back in the tank.
Gotta keep that undergravel clean- good vaccuming...

Cloudy Water

Sorry, I haven't gotten back, been down last few weeks, and trip to ER has hopefully taken care of it.

The Tank stays cloudy all the time, It starts out kinda cloudy. I have used my python water changer and even vacuumed really good under the undergravel.

At first just a little cloudy, and then after about 2 weeks, it gets really cloudy, I can't see from the front of the tank to the back of the tank.

I'll have to check the measurements. I did notice one thing, the tank is situated a little bit across from the other tank, and I think the Canister (eheim) not sure on the model, but It works great !! - is near the blinds on the sliding door. I think mabye the sun is hitting the caniter filter and possibly causing a problem now ??

Might this be it, or something else. I will try and get the Ammoniumand nitrite levels, in a couple of days, can't bend down that far to get into the cabniets right now :(

how large are your water changes, one possibility would be if you are doin a large water change with a python then the chlorine from teh water you are adding is killing the basteria causing ammonia spikes and making the tank minicycle whych could cause cloudy water, water color is the cloudiness?, you could try vacuuming with the python and adding new water with a bucket or gallon jugs (not ones used for anything toxic, could just buy a 5 gallon bucket for a few bucks at home depot) this way you could treat it or even let it sit out for a few days ahead of time, it could easily be caused by something else this is just a suggestion
