my best guess is that water must be being treated differently lately............... or I just suck!!

After a water change in my 55gal. last night; today I found: 4 Black Ruby barbs (that's all I had), my pair of Odessa barbs, a yoyo loach (the remaining 2 haven't been seen so I assume they are dead also!).

2 weeks ago I lost a few fish in a 10 gal (1 soul surviver got move out of that tank) & I have been trying to figure out what happened & now this horrible mess!!!!!! All of the fish that died today weren't easy to find locally.

I'm so sad; almost sadden out of the hobby.

Sorry to hear about your losses :(

It could be that your water company has switched from chlorine to chloramines, or there is a higher level of nitrates than normal.

You should dechlorinate a cup of water and test it for ammonia and nitrates. You could also ask your LFS or local fish club if they know anything about it. You could also call the water company and see what has changed.

update

Sorry for your loss FishiesGallore.
I love your tank names, very creative! :)

Update: 2 of the 3 yoyo loaches lived! :)
Apon think over what could have gone wrong I come to the conclusion that I must be at fault :( I was cleaning the filters (squeezing sponges & swishing parts in a bucket of tank water) while new water was coming in by python. Think there wasn't enough cirrulation of the water conditioner (because filters being down). The temp. of the new water may have been off also. This water change was about 50% (due to skipping it for 2 1/2 weeks).
I originally thought that my local water had been treated differently because I read in the newspaper that will be (still not sure when though).
On a side note: I refrigerate water & have a had a few bottles taste bad lately but so far I am blaming my kid & myself for that also (but I'll monitoring this as well).
