Yesterday when I came home from work I noticed I had 4 weird fish in my 75 gallon. Hmm, could these be some severums perhaps? ;)

Sneaky little guys, see how this one is tring to play hide and seek with me?

There are also three fish in my 45 gallon that I didn't have before yesterday. I would get pictures, but they just won't stay out of there shells long enough. It's odd, but they look like Dwarf Comps for some reason. *SUPERSMIL

A big shout out to my man Pure and his good Lady at home for packing and shipping me these beuties. The guy tells me that the sev's will be getting more colorfull as the weeks go on and they settle in. I can't belive how colorfull they are now!

Funny what a little food will do :D

This is the best shot of the male that I could get. You can't really tell, but he is about twice the size of the smaller ones which are the females. He is much more skittish and shy than the females.

Thanks guys

Janlo the shellies are Altolamprologus compressips (check my spelling on that, it's late) dwarf 'sumbu'. They look and according to much of what I've read act very similar to the regular comps, except they are a quarter the size and live in shells.

I offered food to all the newbies today and everyone ate at least a little bit.

I'm still pretty stumped on tankmates for the severums. I'm thinking something along the lines of the Blue Acara and/or some nice angels. I may even break down and finaly order something from Angels Plus. :) I would also like to see a large school of cories, and possibly some larger tetra's or rasbora's.

EDIT: I belive I'm in love with the sev's. As I was getting my first cup of coffee this morning they came to the front of the tank begging for food! lol, I'm such a sucker

Oh no the dark side is strong with this one! *crazysmil Haha

I like AngelsPlus Zebra strain and Koi strain. Their Koi strain is mostly Orange and really looks good.

Haha, careful don't let the heros sucker you into giving them more food. They are always hungry LMAO.

Thanks for taking them my man. Now the rest of my guys have more room to spread their fins and seem to be a bit happier.

Those who may be wondering the fish in the pics are not really severums, that is just they easiest way to describe them. The proper name is Red Hero Efasciatus, or red heros. The best thing about them is they have the temperament and personality of a severum but won't get any bigger than they are now. 3-5 inches is the max for these guys.

Orion here is an idea of what to expect for their color.

Well, lets see. 'fasciatus' is latin for stripes, or something similar to that right? I am rather curious what the 'E' stands for.

Striped Severum? Dwarf Severum would most likley work too. Or since they are somewhat disk shaped, make them sound even more exotic and desireable and link a discus like name to them...Long fin Discus? lol. Oh boy this is fun. :) We get to be the nimrods behind a ludicrus common name lol

"long finned discus" LOL!

I like calling them Heros in my house cus that stops the confusion with my other severums. Sides the severums pouted when we called them that in from of them.

Problem with calling them Heros is the hero is a large family that includes all the different severums, convicts, ect ect. So Heros is too common a term.

Dwarf red spot severum?

Price...emm I would guess 10-15 a fish. I paid 90 plus shipping for 17 1" fry. So yeah that's about ball park I would guess. Haven't really seen any of them in any LFS to base anything off of.

Orion, you got at least 1 female...Dibs on some if you ever get them to spawn.:D I'm bout to try dropping the PH in their tank. They should be of age now and haven't displayed any flirting.

At least one you say? What's the best way to sex them? I was looking at the fin's today and noticed that one, the largest, had a very pointy dorsal and anal fin. I would go so far to say that it had filiments. Two of the others have somewhat points on the fins, but not filiments, and the smallest one has rather round find on the end. These guys should be around breeding age then shouldn't they?

Yeah, I'm going to drop the Ph as well.....just going to do regular water changes and not add anything to the water :p hehe, and all this time I thought soft water was a curse.

Don't count the fry before they hatch guys! But ok, gots you two down on the list :D
