my water comes from a well - there is no chlorine at all.  Should I be using conditioner?  I haven't been, and the fish are okay, but I wonder if stress coat or something might be a good idea.

We were always told that conditioner was a good thing to use.  We use it w/ bottled spring water (tap water was too harsh and couldn't keep pH under control).  Unless you hear from folks more in the know, we'd say go ahead and use them.  At the very least, they seem to do no harm.

I pull water for fishies from the kitchen tap which has an extra filter under the sink.

I don't think I need to treat the water for "stuff" so much as I might need to add a conditioner (aloe vera?) for the fish.

Right now I am keeping guppies which like hard water and all is well.  I want another tank with other fish, so I'm not sure if this practice of no additive will work for them
