Some years ago I purchased a 96gallon triangle aquarium, with the intent to make it a saltwater aquarium. I moved before I was finished setting it up. I now would like to set it up as a freshwater system, because the nearest source of saltwater fish is over two hours away. The tank came equipped with a wet/dry filter, protein skimmer, and pump. I would like to know if this filtration system will work for freshwater. If so are there any things I might need to know about it, as in a different filter media ETC.

I had a 55 saltwater tank for 5 years and have all of that stuff as well. From what I was told, the wet/dry filter will work for freshwater, as it just does the job of cleaning the water and providing a means for biological filtration. However there is no benefit to using a protein skimmer in a freshwater environment.

If I'm wrong, please tell me. I'd like to put those things to good use!!
