What are good prices for pl*cos?

#1
I was in San Francisco a while ago and there was this little shop that had zebra pl*cos in just about every tank. I could have swore the were being sold for $8.00 each. I just decided I wanted one and started looking around locally and can't find them anywhere. Two stores said they could probably get them for $25 and one told me that he thought $8 was about right. I looked online and they are going for like $80.00! I know they are sesonal fish but I don't know what seasons they are available.

What is a good price to pay for a zebra pl*co?
How about royal pl*cs, gold nuggets, and any other fancy strain you know about? I'm not totaly decided on a zebra (especially if they really are $80.00) but I want a cool suckermouth catfish. Also, is there a difference between royal pl*cs with gold and blue stripes? Does one go by another name or do they both share "royal". I think I saw the blue ones refered to as royal spotted and the gold as royal striped, but many webpages had conflicting pictures.

Last one I bought was a gold nugget for 300 Norwegian kroner, wich I'm happy enough with. The same guy had zebras for 650 NOK, but I prefer nuggets.
I'd be surprised with zebras at 8$ a time - I'm sure that's below wholesale. It implies somebodys breeding big numbers in captivity, or the shop owner didn't know what he had. They weren't some kind of stripy peckoltia, or maybe that's what the other store thought you meant. They're available here for approx 8 bucks equiv.
But you can't tell. I visited Houston soon and a shop I visited had 3 tanks of frontosa for 5 - 7 dollars! (and more big 30cms+ common plecs than I'd ever seen before)
