Kribs, Rams, Apistos, Keyholes, any other dwarf cichlid.

Focus on the smaller, peaceful cichlid types, like the ones mentioned above.

Not sure if Discus or Angelfish are too big for a 35

I'd say stick to the smaller ones too. Blue listed some good ones. I would reccommend rams or apistos since they stay near the bottem of the tank. Won't bother the gouramis as much. There could be fin nipping though and you would only be able to have up to a pair of 1 kind of cichlid.

From my short experience with Discus i wouldnt put one in the 35 gallon tank. Discus are very nervous fish and some fish (mainly fish that move alot) cause them to die cause the get so nervous .They really only like to be with other Discus.

I would stay away from angles going into a tank with gouramis. Many are bad fin nippers, and can ravage an angel in a short time.

The smaller dwarf species that have already been listed would make a great choice.

Me and my brother have kept many dwarf gouramis with our angels without a problem (except when my angel was very, very little (barely an inch) and the dwarf gourami was fully grown). This is out of 3 angels and 6 different dwarf gouramis. I do not know why people say that dwarf gouramis and angels don't get along. I guess it must be that some dwarf gouramis have bad attitudes.

I wouldn't do more than one angel though.

But kribs on the other hand can be evil. My brother got a pair but I think they are both males or something because they always fight and they made his betta finless and ripped the sword on the swordtail.

They can be in pairs if they actually get along, otherwise the stronger fish will constantly harrass the weaker. You can do a single angel, and it should hang out with the gouramis. I haven't ever had a problem with gouramis and angels either.

Angels aren't really fast swimmers, and don't need as much space as a quick swimmer of the same size. They do better with the taller tanks, as opposed to long tanks.
