What did you do?

I'm setting up a 55 gal tank and deciding what to put in it. Since there is only room for a limited number of fish, what did you do when setting up your tank. Did you only buy the number of fish that the tank would support when they were fully grown? Or did you buy more than the tank would support when fully grown and move/sell/trade some of the fish when the fish outgrew the tank? Thanks for your replies.

I stock mine to adult size. If you stock more than the tank wll hold while young you can lead to water quality issues and stunting of your fish.

I would have to agree partly with Miss Dixie. If you stock your tank more than to adult size you risk stunting your fish. But as far as damaging your water quality it depends on your tank maintainace and filtration. But either way not the best idea.
