Hi everyone! I used to have a pair of guppies in a 15 gal tank. Well the female got sick after giving birth but I wasnt sure what disease it was. Well the symptoms were that she couldnt float well like other fish would and she would stay on the bottom most of the time until I feed them where she would really try hard to reach the flakes then she would just drop to the bottom chewing them. Well it got worse and I panicked so I separated her to a small container. Then she died. I would like to know what it was and is there anything I could do to cure it if it were to happen to my male guppy and thier babies?

um I think you would get more help if you moved this thread to freshwater general discussion or the disease forum. Also try not to post the same thing in like 5 different threads. You will get your help soon. I myself am sorry that I can't help you with your disease...

To be honest, it doesn't sound like a disease, but more like a general health problem.

Were there any problems with the water? Did you test it? What were you feeding her?

As guppies are generally farm raised and inbred, it's possible you just had a weak fish. Good food (including frozen or fresh foods), regular water changes and a tank that isn't overstocked will give your guppies the best chances of breeding.

Yes Lotus is right. Most guppies nowadays are inbred. They used to be a hardy fish, but due to breeders neglecting to bring in new males to breed with the females, the whole guppy species has become watered down and guppies just aren't as strong as they used to be. They're gorgeous little devils but you gotta baby them.
