Sorry this post is long but I have been thru a lot and have a lot to say, please help if youre curious...
ok. I have two betas. 1 boy (purple, yellow, pink, orange) 1 girl (red, purple).
I live in NYC and i do my best to give them a good life style. The water in nyc isnt really the best for the betas but ive made it a habbit to regularly clean their tanks and change the water up to 60% of it. Because I dont usually buy the beta water sold at petco I just fill the empty takes with boiled water and let it sit till it reaches room temp then i put the fish and and salt and heaters into it.
Ok that being said. I bought the boy while i was living in the CT (connecticut) where we had well water and he had pink gills at the time. But i think he has gotten older (and im sure the nyc water helped speed this process....) and now his gills are WHITE WHITE WHITE and no amount of meds were helping so i just stopped. Besides, he swims, is curious, is aggressive, he eats and makes HUGE bubble nests. So id say he's doing ok.
HOWEVER..... my girl is much more active then my boy. SHE makes even bigger bubble nests then the boy's, is wildly curious and playful. She has an ecessive amount of energy and can keep up with my 24 hour nyc lifestyle. (while my boy usually sleeps in the corner of his tank)
I bought her while i was in nyc. She has white gills too. But now it looks like the white has spread all over her body. Just a week ago she was constipated (i did the pea thing, it worked great) but her body is still white. She is still active, energetic and playful... so im not too worried. However im so curious as to what is going on with her....... is she in pain?
Anyway i took pictures please look and tell me what you think:
** She is deep red- forgive the lighting and picture quality...

...I dont think its dropsy but i dont know... her gills arnt bleeding, they are red, and the black scales you see have always been there, and they are not flared. Nor does she have any white specls or fungus or fuzz anywhere. Shes been living with this huge white thing on her stomach for 2 weeks now... and shes happy as a clam.. what is going on?
Is it eggs? (how can that be? i dont breed them)
Is it her gills?
Is it beginning stages of dropsy?
WHAT IS IT AND WHAT DO I DO???
thanks :O
