what goes with a betta

I am all excited now to try out a 5 gallon tank (up from 2.5) for my betta, thanks to RJRofFL's post on cycling.

my question is once cycle is successful and complete, what if anything can i put in the tank with a male betta? Or should I leave him enjoy the extra space to himself, and if so, will he excrete enough poo and urine to keep the tank in balance with itself, assuming i continue to test for amonia, N02 and N03?

you could add 2 panda cories or 2 peppered cories or 2-3 otos. That'd be pushing it a little, but I think it'd be fine .

i'v got corys and neon tetras in with mine. he leaves the corys alone and he chases the tetras sometimes but usually leaves em alone

I wouldn't have neons and a betta in anything less than a 10g, that way you can have room for a reasonable school and the betta will be less territorial towards them.

the betta will be perfectly fine in the 5 gal on his own. he will keep the cycle going.

I agree with Newman the betta will be fine on his own and will probably prefer/be healthier with the space to himself.

Corys need 4+ of the same or similar species to be truly happy and active. As for what goes with a Betta, well it all depends on the fish. I had one that wouldn't even tolerate my corys. The one in with my corys now doesnt even bother fancy guppies - go figure.
