55 gal planted (5 plants); Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 10, PH 7.2, GH 6, KH 4

Tank Finished cycling Sat. 4/5; I added more fish, no mini-cycle happened, no spikes of any kind. Since the cycle finished I've done 20-25% water changes both Saturdays that have passed, & still my problem remains. At first I thought is was because the tank wasn't done cycling yet, now I just don't know.
The problem is the yellowish tinge of the water, which has been like that since just a few days after the tank was set up on 3/10. I have natural colored pebbles (alot of white, some brown, beige, black, bone, etc.) for gravel, and the pebbles have been progressively getting a darker yellowish/brownish (more yellow) tinge, too.
I do not have any driftwood at all. My 10 gallon water is from the same tap, & is crystal clear. 2 weeks ago I added a media bag with extra carbon in it, & it hasn't helped a bit; My last water change (Saturday), I replaced one filter cartridge & rinsed the other (Penguin 330). (I also have a UGF).
Fish seem fine, eat well, but my tank is not as beautiful as it could be, and I am at my wit's end. I did have brown algae on my plant leaves, but since the addition of my cute little oto's, it was gone within two days!
Why is it like this? What can I do? Thank you for any responses!
- I love this site and have learned a great deal here, & recommend it to anyone i know who talks about their aquarium problems.

There's no driftwood, he says so. And a gravel only substrate. What are the plants in?, though I tihnk it's unlike to be that which is colouring the water.
You have a very fine brown algae growing on everything right? Well that probably also includes the glass, and if they're diatoms they may preferentially be on the glass. A thin layer on the glass will be like 'smoke effect' glass, and tint everything brown. So have you tried scraping the glass with a credit card to see if that helps?

My one tank was tinted brown, or maybe yellowish for the longest time, then suddenly one day it was crystal clear. No idea why though. All I had in were some river rocks and a plastic/resin/whatever log thing.

Did the color tinge decrease after the water change? Did you make sure to rinse your gravel thoroughly before putting it in the tank? Do you have good water circulation going in that tank? An airstone, or maybe spare powerhead or something?

I'm in the process of setting up a 34gal tank that came used with a bunch of very nice looking orange/red sand. It has clouded my tank orange so much that you can't even see through it, its not quite done cycling. However, I added in an airpump with some spare hose and just started pumping air into the water and causing surface agitation, the next day, I could see everything clearly. I've since added a small airstone to the end of the hose and the tank gets clearer everyday. Just another suggestion.
