I.D. This cichlid please!!

Can someone tell me what kind of african cichlid this is? It was bought at wal mart over a year ago, sex is unknown as well. it's about 3.5" long and turns 'black' when stressed. Its just been moved to its new 29g tank and needs some compatable roomies! Thanks!!

I'll take a guess and say its a Rusty Cichlid. (?)

Anyone else?

Not much can fit cichlid wise in a 29gal. Maybe 1-2 Yellow Labs? Or another rusty cichlid if indeed that is what this fish is.

Oh and you only need to post once in one section.

Ive been looking up rusty cichlids since man's post, and it says they generally have mild temperment. This fish attacks EVERYTHING, including the pleco it lives with. There was a time when 2 cichlids from the lfs's 'african cichlid' tank' were added, but slowly died, probably due to the stress of being with fish #1, who would chase the other fish and nip at there fins. It had lived in the tank alone for 6 months, and the tank was 10g, maybe this also had something to do with it?
I think he might be a lab hybred, perhaps with a hap? But i dont know too much about fish really.

Anyway, any suggestions on any fish that might work in the new 29g? thanks!

lol... I dont think we'll ever know for sure what it is!

The tank actually belongs to my neighbors.. and.. maybe this will help?... They bought 3 new cichlids for the tank. a south american (not sure what kind) an electric blue, and a yellow lab. ALL of the fish get along fine, except the original one and the yellow lab. I am guessing this is because of there similar looks, and maybe they are both male? Anyway, dont know if the yellow lab is staying or being exchanged for something more compatable. im suprised the south american are getting along with the africans so well!!
