What is wrong with my Rena Air 50?

I have a Rena Air 50 pumping air into my 10 gallon hex on top of my short yet sturdy nightstand.
It is on a Marineland bubblewand 4". (these clog too easily!!)

Also, it is all on carpet, and so is the pump.
It seems to me that when I step on the pump and push down, more air bubbles seem to come out of the wand. How come?
Also, what is a good way to prevent the clogging? It doesn't clog all the way, just enough to dramatically drop air flow..
My quick fix is to hook the airline to a syringe, and pump really really fast, so massive "cloud bubbles" come out, and I do this for about a minute.

 I couldn't tell you what the problem is, but I'll try asking my dad, he might know. My dad is really good at fixing things, he fixed my Tetra DeepWater so that it doesn't create a rackit anymore. It maybe that you should try a pump that is a little more powerful. Bubblewands do clog very easily, I have to repoke holes in it with a needle every once in a while so it may also be that you will just have to do that too.
