What cichlids have you kept and loved, or would love to keep? By personality and/or coloring.

My favorites so far since I have been researching are afra 'cobues', pseudotropheus sp. 'flamebacks' and labidochromis sp. 'mbamba, but I've never kept them to know their personalities.

OK then, if you could have any kind of mbuna you wanted, what would it be? I'm still debating on what species I want to get, and I don't want anything common, so that's why I'm looking for suggestions on what everyong else likes :)

BTW Matt, are there any good mbuna stores in Columbia, since I'm going to be driving right through there in a week? :D

Pseudotropheus saulosi or Pseudotropheus polit are my favorite Mbunas.

We have 1 decent fish store here, but usually has your run of the mill Mbuna, maybe a gem once in a while but nothing constant. Very few haps. Though they do get in some nice peacocks. Also pretty expensive. If you want i can possibly give you some directions to it incase you had time and just wanted to check it out.

We acctually have another store that i have yet to check out (maybe this weekend).

That is seriously impossible for me to answer, but right now, this second, I like most big cichlids, minus flowerhorns, I mean, sure they look kinda cool, but the whole red eyes thing...just sorta freaks me out

Hard to narrow it down (which is probably why I have four african cichlid tanks), but frontosa's and metriaclima sp. zebra 'chilumba' (see avatar) are among my favorites.

OK then, if you could have any kind of mbuna you wanted, what would it be?
Probably some male blue-morph metriaclima estherae (i.e, 'wild type' red zebras).

I love the Red Empress Cichlids (although I have not owned any.) When I upgrade I definitely will be looking for those.

And I am going to give a shout-out to my Yellow Labs, although not very original, they know how to keep it real. :) When they are fed properly, the colors can be quite beautiful. And they aren't super-aggressive which is more my style.

Favorites... Definitly Oscars, second place is definitly any dwarf SA, expecially GBRs... Favorite Mbuna... I'd have to know more about the different species to pick, but I'm simple, I like zebras.

FishChic, cobues are one of the species that I am seriously considering. I'm just not sure about the size difference between them and the flamebacks. I think the flamebacks are a definite in my tank.

I kinda like the metriaclima sp. zebra 'chilumba', although I'm looking for something with a tiny bit of yellow in it to bring in the colors of the flamebacks. I know, I know, I'm trying to color-coordinate my fish tank

Well, I'm really new to the Cichlid world, but I've done huge amounts of reading and looking at species pics.

I'd have to say as far as big guys it would be and albino oscar for sure. If not that, then I'd say my Sevs are a close second :)

On a medium/large-ish note, I'd say Firemouths, Yellow Labs or Cons

on a medium/small-ish scale I'd say Brichardi

and a small one would be a well colored up GBR.

........So much for picking just one huh :p
