The large peice to the left.
The substrate looks like crushed coral, I think. This is a similar idea to what I want to do with my next cichlid tank. I thought crushed coral and that type of rock would look really nice.
It looks like it could be carved rainbow rock (no I don't think all the holes in it are natural) or soapstone, which is really easy to carve. Or it might be a piece of driftwood painted white. Or it could be a fake rock, you know, molded from apoxy or something to that interesting form. Don't know where you could get one unless you email the guy who's tank it's in and ask him.

Dammmmm,,,,,wish I knew someone in Texas... It costs quite a pretty penny online, even on ebay. Well its not expensive in US funds, but you can almost double that in CDN funds, then toss your shipping and taxes on that, and LOOK OUT!!!
I hear ya, Atlantic.....I've wanted this stuff FOREVER as I love how the tank looks, and I've seen vids of happy fishies playing in all the holes......I just can't afford it though.
You can get a similar effect with carved Traverine available at most lfs, sold by the pound. I'ts lightweight, so not terribly pricey, and the added bonus of buffering pH and KH.
