What kinda fish is this?

There are two of them in a 75gal with 2 Bps and some other fish at a place I work. I was just wondering what kinda fish it was.

heros severus! aka green severum

very pretty fish that grows to 8 inches....not too aggressive....many folks keep with oscars, tetras, barbs, geophagus sp. etc.--nothing too aggressive for them.

Thanks! I was wondering what they were. I would say that they are about 7-8 inches now. Quite big.

Green severum - scientific name - who knows - turns out the fish at the Heros severum original collection spot is a mouthbrooder and most everything in the industry called Heros severum isn't

the green severum is Heros severus. And its an egglayer, not a mouthbrooder.

i'm raising two of my own, lots of spunk, but pretty peacful.

They can be egg layers........after they lay the eggs the female scoops them up in her mouth....LOL thats what a mouthbrooder is......

I love my Gold severum. I think they are very impressive fish when properly taken care of. I have seen more taterd/sick severums at places then any other fish. I like that fact that they are peacful for the most part, yet are also big.

I kept green sevs for over year. They got to reach 8" and were very cool. At the time I couldnt get a larger tank for them, so I had to part with them.

Sorry verse, they're reclassifying all of the Heros genus so some german guys went back to the original site where the Heros severum holotype was caught - it wasn't the fish in the trade called a severum, and the fish was a mouthbrooder!
The fish now called a severum is believed to be Heros efasciatus, also called H. appendiculatus.
I don't know many Heros species there are but I know there are some real impressive ones going into the US at the moment
