what lights?

im setting up my 55g and i need to know what lighting and how much i should get. im going to put some mushrooms and zoas in there. i wanted to see what brands you guys have tried, and liked.

i would get stronger light than the minimum for shrooms, and zoas, because if your current state comtinues, you'll want more than just that.

if your just wanting low light softies and possible some super lowlight LPS i would get this Big Al's Online Aquarium Supply

those fixtures are probably your best bang for the buck (short of DIY) and are very reliable.

In my 55g how many fish could i have if i got flame angel, coral beauty angel, goby, clownfish, blue damsel, and firefish. If some of these dont get along with each other tell me.

Hey Enzo,
It would be risky putting 2 angel fish in the same tank. Even tho they are both Dwarf Angels, they will still fight with each other. Another prob I see is the damsel. The Blue Devil Damsel has well earned it name. Most Damsels are territorial and pester and pick on other fish, regardless of size. The Yellow tailed Damsel seems to be the most calm of the Damsels.
I have a Yellow Tail in my tank and so far , he has been pretty nice to the rest of his tankmates. They are as follows... Coral Beauty,Percula Clown,Yellow watchmen goby,Scooter blenny,Firefish and a Yellow Tang...along with my Yellow tail..... so far ,so good.
But like I said earlier.... it would be risky to put 2 angels in the same tank.

so i would have to choose which angel i would want and then forget about the blue damsel and try for a less aggressive damsel. but other then that the rest of the fish would go well with each other?

i found them and the tank looks great. im getting help to set up my tank from yahoofishkeeper and her tank doesnt look bad either so hopefully mine will turn out as good as yours and hers.

since im going to put a sump with the tank what size of a pump should i get for the sump?

I would put something rated with atleast a 4ft head and 1100+ gph. These are nice pumps, maybe the 1800 model. If you put a high flow pump from your sump, then you won't need to use powerheads, especially if you spread out the flow between a couple return lines.

yes the mags work nicely for sumps, but make sure you get one that has WAY MORE than enough head to pump from your sump to the output into the tank, ive found that you need atleast twice as much rated head as the distance from you sump to the tank.

i thought you were doing a 20 or 29 gal sump? it would add more water to the system, and you could do a better refugium with more space.

i forgot that i gave away my 30g to a friend for his snake because his snake was getting to big for his old tank.

ahh... that sucks... you can probably get a bigger one pretty cheap. you might be able to trade it to a LFS for a bigger one.
