Re: what other fish w/goldfishes
Aye, totally agree. The only thing to put with goldfish, are more goldfish (and definately not a pleco, but that is a common mistake of all beginning goldfish collectors<G&gt
.
In fact, there are even rules for what goldfish can go together. They are:
1) Like tails with like tails. That is:
Koi, commets, and shubunkin (single tails) stay together
Fantails (double tails) stay together
Now it is broken down further into the fancy fantail groups:
2) Like eyes with like eyes. That is:
Telescopes with other telescopes (moors etc)
Bubble eyes with only bubble eyes
Celestrial with only celestrial
Normal eyes with normal eyes (your typical fantails)
Now more confusing:
3) Like heads with like heads. That is:
Wrens with wrens (Orandas should stick together)
And finally:
4) No dorsal fin stays with no dorsal fin. That is:
Lionfish and ranchu stay with each other
The reasons for this is simple. A fantail ranchu with fully developed head wren and no dorsal fin would never, ever, in a million years, be able to compete with a koi or commet for food. The koi or commet would be so swift, they'll eat the food before the ranchu finds it and their quick swimming may also damage the ranchu's wren, making him subceptible to infection and disease.
If you have a 29gallon tank, the only thing you'd be able to keep in it would be two full grown goldfish. And even that's pushing it because you'd still be doing a ten gallon water change once a week. Goldfish like fresh water, and lots of it, perferrably chilled to about 68oF. Way to chilly for a pleco!
Any other questions, let me know!
