what other fishes to put?

i'll be starting a 20 gal tank & will be putting a pair of convicts in it. are there other fishes that i can put in the tank besides the pair? thanks. *twirlysmi

u might be able to put a pleco in it or maybe some kind of loach but a 20 gallon in a little small for other fish

Don't get a common pleco they will grow too large for that size tank. Maybe a bristlenose or a pleco that doens't grow large. You could maybe get away with one medium sized central or south american cichlid (4-6 inches) but as the convicts grow and spawn (which they will if you have a male and female) they will become more billigerent. They will rule that tank. Personally I would only keep the convicts but if you get another fish make sure there are adequate hiding places and the new fish has the same tenacity as the convicts. I have kept convicts and I have seen them dominate fish twice their size.

thanks for the suggestions. actually the pair r a male & female & i believe they r spawning. i was wondering if it's ok to have rams or jewel cichlids in it?

a pair of spawning convicts in a 20g is all you are going to want in there due to aggression

i would say no, not enough space to accomadate their terrotorial needs
