Ok heres the situtaion, me 16 years old jsut recently acquired a job and after this week will have about $300 earned. Currently i have a 35 gallon tank that sits in the basement which i would like to get a stand and canopy for, which would run bout $200 and then i could bring it upstairs and have in near the computer.

Or i could save a while longer and start a small 10 gallon SW tank that would cost me more in the long run and have my Clownfish with some hermits.

So ya im lookin for what you guys/gals would do/think?

can you speak english please... I don't know whether you are a beginner, if so I would get the stand and the canopy to create a nice looking set up and go from there... Less expensive in the long run, and from what I have heard, easier...

Well, I've been looking into the nano SW tanks, and I think I've just about got the prices scaled. I was thinking of doing a 29 gal nano. I would have to have LR, LS, PC's, custom hood, stand, testing supplies, and corals/fish. I talked to a bunch of people on other forums about it, and they gave me an estimate. It was over $400. That's what I expected, and you would probably need a skimmer for a 29 gal, too. Which would raise the price more. So, if you wanted to do a 10 gal. nano, it would be cheaper, but if it's your first nano, it will be really hard. If it's your first SW tank, I would suggest you going the 35 gal. root, but then it would probably be close to $600. Plus if you actually wanted some interesting coral, it would cost you big time. I'd say by the time you got everything you wanted/needed, you would have spent over $700. That's just my estimate on it. Another option you could do would be to do a brackish water tank. Since I probably won't do SW for a while, I was thinking about brackish. Just an idea, but I think brackish water would be an option too. lol I hope my rambling helped, but if it didn't, oh well... I hope you can figure it out!! Good luck!! :)

I think thats a good thought. The saltwater would be cool...but if you already have the 35 and have ideas for how to set it up I'd go for that. Personally I dont have enough time or money to work on a SW tank...so I don't think that will be happening anytime soon for me, but hey...in the end its YOUR choice :) You gotta do what will make you happy

ohhhhh. brackish is a neat idea. stay away from the salt jawz! stay away! not in a 10 IMO. A cool 50gal. or more for salt is worth the effort and cost. but brackish is different and interesting. now I want a brackish. whine........ ;-)
