Yes, try to cool it down like to 78-79. If you keep your temperatures too high it will dramatically affect your fish in ways of life span. Makes his metabolism go up as well, which means he needs more to eat which equals more waste.

Good luck,
Daniel

NO! Not ice! It will freeze the little guy. What I do is take a bucket of dechlorinated water and fill the basement sink with hot water. Then I put the bucket of d. water in the hot water (not mixing the two waters) until the temperature reaches 75ish. Usually for about 10 minutes. Then take out some of your bettas 83 degree water and add the cooler, dechlorinated water. Also, make sure your betta is not in direct sunlight, this is what might be causeing your temperature to get that high. I keep mine between 78-80*F, although for medicating your fish its okay to have it at 82-85*F.

Betas like warmer water than most tropical fish...but since I don't have one I can't give you an exact temperature.

A good suggestion for cooling down the water would be to put ice in a sealed baggy and put it in the water. That way the ice won't cool down the water too fast and you wont have to worry about the yucky stuff from the icecubes contaminating your water.

if you have a cover that flips open, you could try leaving it open during the day to help let out the warmness - but your water will evaporate quicker... which might work well because when you add replacement water you could use water slightly cooler than the temp. you want to even out with the warmer tank water.

Bettas need to be at about 76 degrees. Your cooking him!! your tan k shouldn't be in the sun or the kitchen. The best way to cool down the tank i think is to move it to a cooler location and then maintaining it at that temp. I hope i helped.

I definately suggest also moving the tank away from any heat source, especially a window or away from any location that gets direct sun. I too feel that you are cooking your poor betta.

Best way to cool it down would be simply, again, move it to a cooler place in the house and allow the temperature to drop normally. If you try to drop the temp too rapidly (ie ice or other methods) you may cause your fish to go into shock or develop ich.

What volume of water are we dealing with here?
