What should i put in my new 20 high? I don't do the whole community thing either, unless its absolutly fasinating.  I like most cichlids and would almost like to start a african tank.Maybe? I like most of the amazons fish the most. Any suggestions?I will do species tank so don't throw that idea out ;)

20G is a little small for africans IMO. How about a pair of convicts? Or maybe some Apistrogramma sp. or Papiliochromis ramirezi?

what does IMO mean? Never heard it before.  No convicts, i just dont' like them much for some reason( at least for now ). Are the Papiliochromis ramirezi greman blues or the regular basic ram?If thats what that name is??I;m pretty sure its a ram of some sort though.

IMO = in my opinion.
IMHO = in my humble opinion

i would suggest getting a few german blue rams. they're such beautiful fishes. remember to feed them frozen brineshrimps to bring out their colors. flakes won't do them justice.

Now I'm confused ???; I found three latin names for this fish: Apistogramma ramirezi, Microgeophagus ramirezi and Papiliochromis ramirezi. I have no idea what the english name is. One book says ramirez' dwarf cichlid, blue ram, german blue ram ??? This is what I had in mind: http://www.aquahobby.com/gallery/gram.htmlhttp://www.myfishtank.net/profiles_view.php?id=36&table=fish

:)HTH

I had a ram for a short while. I got it at walmart.  It was the first time i had ever seen one in a store.  It was cool for a while but ugly as hell.  It had no color!  I was lucky when i would see a little green and maybe some yellow.  Mostly it was grey/black and red.  So i've was disapointed and haven't bought any since. I saw some little ones and was amazed by their color. I was like, why didn'y mine lok like that?
Maybe i might try them again. But still want suggestions.

the links you pointed to. those are the german blue rams(Papiliochromis ramirezi) i have in my tank. beautiful in a planted tank. their colors stand out more when you put them in a planted tank and DON'T feed them flakes. males like to spar off but don't do real damage to each other. alot of personality also. a tad bit expensive, over $10 at my LFS and supposely they don't last that long. i had 3 pairs in my tank and after a bit over a year? i only had one left but he was really healthy.

I've had them too. They're a lot of fun, sensitive about water conditions, but beautiful.
How about Apistogrammas Nativefish_Boy?

Fisrt, my real name is Geoff, so i should probably change my user name( maybe). I thought about Apistogrammas a while back but i couldn't find any but rams.  I want Africans a little more now because we got in some assorted med. africans in today.  There pretty cool.  We also got "Fire Texas Cichlids" in. A customer said that they were a cross between texas and firemouth cichlids. They are pretty freakin' cool, but i don't really know if i want any. My problem is that i get interested in a fish, buy it, and then get bored of it after a few months.  Only the fish that really catch my attention stay with me.  But anyway, more suggestions welcome, need to set it up soon.

Ah, i had a lonely betta in a 10 gallon for a while, but he then got moved into my parents 29 gallon.he didn't do much, so...How hard would it be to set up a brackish tank.  One of my LFS has a good selection of brackish fish.  They have archer fish, monos, puffers, bumblebee gobys, and ghost shrimp and some other stuff i didn't pay attention to. Oh well. If i did go with a brackish tank, do i need any special equipment?
