Is this a bristlenose pleco??? If not what type do you think it is?
I bought it thinking it was a bristlenose but now I'm not so sure.
I want a small bottom feeder for my 36 gallon that will eat algae if it's kicking around.

Thanks!

I believe the photo looks like possibly female Bristlenose.
Clown plecos although they remain small.. are not particularly effective as alage eater,They are more of a wood eater and omnivore as opposed to herbivore.
Bristlenose are good algae eaters and seldom get over five inches long in my expierience.

This is either a bristle/bushy nose or rubberlip/bulldog pleco. I'm going to guess he/she/it is about 1-2 inches right now, meaning it's still juvenile. Once it grows up a little (3-4 inches) it will either grow face tentacles (meaning it's a male bushy), not really change much in appearance (meaning it's a female bushy) or gain more defined lines in on the body, but retaining the head spots (meaning it's a rubberlip). My money is on female bushy.

Edit: Either way you're getting a good algae eater.

yeah, it's either a bushy or a common, the head shape from the side shot makes me think bushy. Some females get bushies and some don't. Some bushies are really good cleaners some are not. Either way they are great plecos. Clowns are striped with a dark brown stripe and a tan stripe, they are not speckled.

I really hoping it's not a common......they get huge.
I'm going to wait for the pleco to grow a little more before I re-panic.
I put the fish in last night and the little algae I had is already almost all gone....so that is good. :D

a top shot would really help, but if he is loose in the tank thats probably a tall task. I would guess bushy unless your fish shop was really unscrupulous.

I would supplement feeding with a slice of zucchini tied to something that sinks with a plain rubber band weekly :)
