In the ER Sunday (ugh) I saw a neat-looking fish. It was about 2", looked to me like a Silver Dollar with a Pink upper half. Beautiful! Anyone know what this was?

Hmm...almost sounds like a painted glass fish to me. If the pink was abnormally bright. However, I don't know if they get that big.

Was this fish clear everywhere but pink upper half? And how "pink" is pink?

Painted glass fish. Glass fish are not normaly like that though. They are dipped in acid, in which their slime coat comes off, injected with paint, and then dipped in something that supposedly puts their slime coat back on. Not one of my favorite methods of getting a beautiful fish.

P.S. Their color wears off after a while.

Hot pink, darkest at the top, fading towards the middle, went down about 1/3 of the total body, close to 1/2. And it was rather clear/silver everywhere else, but the picture above doesn't look the same as this fish - the pink was more extensively into the body and the body was deeper/rounder, top-to-bottom.

I suppose I could try calling them. "Hello ER, can you tell me what kind of fish you have in your fish tank? No, it's not an emergency." LOL

The only picture of a candy tetra I could find is this one:

and it has very little color. Is there a better one you know of?

After a lot of searching, I'm starting to think this was a painted fish as I'm not finding anything that looks like it. Bummer. I won't buy a painted fish. sigh. Anyone know if a Painted Gourami is artificially painted? Here's a picture:

This is close to what I saw, although I thought it was a bit rounder.

Also looking for a picture of a Strawberry Tetra, a bigger picture than this:

It could have been a painted white tetra - that shape'd be about right.
