What would you suggest to treat?

I have recently noticed that my plants (which are fake) in my tank have what seems to be a white "fuzz" all over them and I am linking that to the recent deaths of a few of my fish. Some fish, I think, have had gill worms and one fish right now has kind of patchy scales. By patchy I mean there is kind of a white patch on the scales (not like ich, probably more like velvet) and some of the scales in those areas are scuffed. One red swordtail I had a little while ago had a tail that got the same kind of white patches before she died.

Please tell me what I should use to treat this if it is what I'm thinking it is, parasites. Other than a water change. I know that is a must and I also plan on testing my water soon so that I'll know the parameters, but I want to know what would be the best way to rid my tank of these parasites as far as any meds and get my tank back to good health. Thanks.

Fuzz on plants is not in any way a sign of parasites. The only connection the disease in the fish and the fuzz on the plants might have is that they're both a symptom of poor water quality.

Take a look at some of the pictures here to see if you can diagnose what your fish have: Pandora's Aquarium

It's possible you have more than one disease going on with the fish.

Well, I looked at that form and I guess this disease isn't like velvet, but I can't exactly find something that would describe it either, except for maybe body fungus. The fish I have now that has the problem, the white patches are look kind of slimy and you really can only see the patches at a certain angle in the light. In the past the fish with the problem with get scales nipped and that's happening now and the side that's getting nipped is showing hints of red, like possible bleeding. I will do a water change tomorrow or as soon as I can. Please give me anymore info you can on what I might be able to do to treat this. Thanks for your help.

If you suspect gill flukes, it's probably better to treat for that first. It could be that the problems with the scales are a secondary infection, caused by the lowered immune system from the flukes. Most antiparasitic meds will kill shrimp, so you should try to remove your shrimp before treating, if you can.

After that, you can try Melafix, or if you think you need something stronger, you could treat with Jungle Fungus Cure or Fungus Clear.

Well, I went to Petsmart to find Melafix and instead I found Pimafix which said it treated fungis. I treated with Pimafix and it worked great! Thanks for your help I appreaciate it. My fish is all better. No slimmy white patches or red scales. So far I haven't had anyother problems and my shrimp still lives, maybe those few with gill worms were just unlucky. I shall still keep an eye out though (as always;)). Thanks again. *thumbsup2 *twirlysmi *BOUNCINGS *SUPERSMIL *SUNSMILE*
