So I've had my tank setup and running with 6 blue tetras for almost a week now and still no spikes in ammonia, nitrates, or nitrites. Should I get more fish or what? Thanks.
Cycling with fish can take a long time to get the cycle started. This is because the waste has to accumalate and decompose, then bacteria needs to grow, divide, culture! 1 week is only a quarter so you must be patient!
I understand the whole cycling process can take over a month, but from the research I've done, I was under the impression that I should at least notice an ammonia spike right off the bat. Is this incorrect?
Not really! Like I mentioned, it takes some time for waste to gather and decompose. The next factor is stocking levels such as how many gallons your tank is and how many fish you have. This will indicate the rate of waste being produced. Patience is the #1 factor in this hobby!
