Most people will agree that a protein skimmer is necessary for a SW tank, especially for beginners. And yes, bigger is better. IMHO some of the better brands for large tanks are Euro Reef, Aqua C & ETS. For more specific info regarding which model I would contact the manufactures on their websites.
