What's the difference ...

... between airstones and that foam-type stuff used for "bubble walls?" I mean, other than the make-up of the product, are there maintenance issues, is one more durable than the other? I have seen a price difference, i.e. the airstones are cheaper.

There is a slight difference. Both can get clogged with algea and minerals and stuff like that, but the foam bubble walls can be reopened with a pin. So they can always be cleaned and you never have to worry about replacing them. Once hte stone ones become clogged, thats it, time to replace them, but if you get them in packs of 4+ it really wont matter that much in the end.

I have both, I use the foam for an entire wall and I use the stones for little jets and and more intricate stuff.

my 2 cents

I could be wrong, but I have found that when I use the foam vs. the actual stone I get smaller air bubbles. I actually use one for the dispersal co2 in a DIY system. The foam imits like a cloud of extremly small "pin point" sized bubbles.
