what's this fish?

Our lfs has a fish they're calling a dragon fish, but it does not match anything I'm seeing in my research.

It is a long bottom dweller, with an eel-like body, the fin runs along the top almost the full length of the fish. It has a large head with a deep hinged jaw mouth. It is a pale grey color and kind of ressembles one of those deep-sea luminous fish in shape.

My daughter wants to get one for her 10g planted, so I was trying to research it, but the name must be wrong. Any ideas?

well, it is called a dragon goby, or violet goby. They get reallly big for a 10 gallon, and wouldn't try to put one in a 10g. They can eat smaller fish, and can get up to 2 feet in length. Heres a link:

ok, thanks, this is definately not the fish for that tank. She currently has algea eaters and a small corycat. (I'll be moving 3 of the algea eaters to my 75g when it's ready.) But she also has guppies and fry.

Now how to break it to her...

yeah, that definately wouldnt be the right fish for the tank.......i'd hate to be in your shoes when you have to tell her

the dragon was one of our first fish the kids loved him but he passed on a few weeks ago. I loved wathcing it swim around now that we have a bigger tank I may get another one.

Maybe when your 75g is ready, you can put in there.
